The costs of a funeral can vary immensely, as it really is as individual as the life that person lived. There are some fixed costs that apply to the practicalities of the process, and variable costs dependent on the type of service you would like.
The cost of a funeral is divided into two parts: 1. Fees due to us for the services that we personally provide. 2. Fees due to third-parties, called disbursements, which we pay on your behalf.

Losing a loved one is never easy, and the added financial pressure of funeral arrangements can make the situation even more difficult. To help ease this burden, Social Security Scotland offers the Funeral Support Payment, a one-off benefit designed to assist with some of the costs associated with a funeral. This payment can be used towards:
If you are eligible for the Funeral Support Payment, your funeral director will guide you in completing the claim form. The form, along with proof of your benefits, must be submitted within two working days of making the funeral arrangements. We will then submit it on your behalf before the funeral takes place.
You may qualify for assistance if you receive any of the following benefits: Universal Credit, Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Child Tax Credit, or Working Tax Credit with a disability element.
Your funeral director will assist you in understanding the eligibility requirements and ensure that all necessary documentation is correctly completed. This support is intended to alleviate the financial strain of funeral costs during a difficult time, allowing you to focus on honouring your loved one.

James Ashton have a long-held and fantastic reputation in Dundee for a good reason. They looked after my family and I so well after my Dad's death. The preparations, cremation, service and internment all went smoothly. I can't thank them enough for their care and respect, and for just being wonderful human beings!
Caring, sympathetic and extremely professional from start to end. At a time when we had enough on our plate to deal with, all the staff at Ashtons (special mention to Colin and Zoe) ensured that we didn't have to worry with the most important part following our mum's passing. This loving care continued from Dominick Watson (Civil Ceremonies Dundee) and from all the staff at The Invercarse Hotel, both initially contacted and organised through Ashtons. I would love to say I won't be using any of them again but such is life, I won't hesitate to call them in the future if and when required. Thank you all x I knew I wanted a humanist service for my mum and Jamie recommended a lovely lady called Fiona. She conducted a beautiful service , everything went smoothly.and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the chapel.
The staff at Ashton's were so helpful, kind and respectful. I had no idea what to do when mum passed away and relied on them to guide us through the process. Although everything had to be done over the phone and email because of the current situation they still managed to make what was an extremely difficult and emotional time as straightforward as possible. Our thanks in particular to Jamie and James.
We wanted to say a very big thank you to James Ashton & Son for the excellent and professional service they provided in making arrangements for our mothers funeral. James in particular was outstanding and clearly takes satisfaction from a service well given. It helped us get through what was a very difficult time. Many thanks once again and very best wishes.
