Financial Assistance

Losing a loved one is never easy, and the added financial pressure of funeral arrangements can make the situation even more difficult. To help ease this burden, Social Security Scotland offers the Funeral Support Payment, a one-off benefit designed to assist with some of the costs associated with a funeral. This payment can be used towards:

  • Contribution towards the funeral directors charges (currently £1257.75)
  • Relevant cremation or burial fees (the cost of a new lair as well as the interment fee may be covered)

If you are eligible for the Funeral Support Payment, your funeral director will guide you in completing the claim form. The form, along with proof of your benefits, must be submitted within two working days of making the funeral arrangements. We will then submit it on your behalf before the funeral takes place.

You may qualify for assistance if you receive any of the following benefits: Universal Credit, Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Child Tax Credit, or Working Tax Credit with a disability element.

Your funeral director will assist you in understanding the eligibility requirements and ensure that all necessary documentation is correctly completed. This support is intended to alleviate the financial strain during a difficult time, allowing you to focus on honouring your loved one.

We tailor funeral arrangements to your needs.
